Call with Tier 1 recruiting firm Kindred Partners

I kicked the week off with a virtual interview, using videoconference, with an Adam Ramsey from executive recruiting firm, Kindred Partners, who was interested in my background for a VP Business Development position with a start-up based out of San Jose. Those guys from Kindred Partners have a great all around story, focused predominantly on start-ups, take equity stake, aligned interest with venture firm and start-up clients, limit the number of positions any one partner can focus on for the year, have worked with such notables including Google, Facebook, Shutterfly, and Tellme, and Adam was just one hell of an honest guy to boot.
The video conference took place at a virtual office called HQ Global, conveniently located about 1 mile from my place in West LA. With over 950 facilities around the world, it’s obvious how useful and convenient their network is for a company like Kindred Partners to screen through candidates before having to fly them out to interview with portfolio companies. The office was great, though I did have a difficult time working with the video equipment, resulting in my having hung up on Adam a couple of times by mistake. Woops, not the best first impression. Adam went through the companies pitch and subsequently, I ran through my own personal pitch. We decided to follow up with a later in the afternoon call to talk about the position in question in far greater detail. I guess things went well since Adam had requested that I find some time on my calendar to fly up to San Jose for an in person meeting with the start-up companies CEO. We have yet to lock down the date, but I fully expect the meeting to take place sometime next week.
Even if this position turns out to be the wrong fit or just the wrong timing, I have somehow been introduced along the way to a tier 1 start-up recruiting firm that I was unaware existed only a couple of weeks ago. I don’t really now how they found me, but my CV is now in the hands of highly respected recruiting firms with close ties to many of the best VC firms and VC portfolio companies in the valley. No doubt that this introduction will bear fruit at some point along the way during my career.
