About Me
My name is Steven Sesar and I am a Los Angeles native who more than anything else has wanted to own and manage his own company, though still has yet to find the idea for which I am willing to commit my heart and soul. I am the grandson of an entrepreneur named Samual Sesar, who started an accounting software company for business managers in the entertainment industry nearly 40 years ago, at a time when most people were still doing their accounting by hand!! The company, Zenith Information Systems is now run by my father, Dennis Sesar, and continues to evolve under his stewardship.
Now, I like to always say that I have entrepreneurial blood running through my veins, however, I have only started a company once, out of necessity, after my previous employer, Arthur Andersen was run out of town following the Enron debacle while I was on a temporary leave of absence attending the Haas School of Businesses at UC Berkeley. I started an IT Staffing firm, otherwise marketed as a “Resource Solutions” company called GTI Solutions LLC, that I ran full time for nearly two years before getting the itch to jump back into the internet with Shopzilla.com, where I ran the business development group for nearly 3 years. Of course, once an entrepreneur, always an entrepreneur, and after the E.W. Scripps company acquired Shopzilla back in June of 2005, I have since wanted to pursue something on my own or become a participant in a company that was still trying to find its way.
First and foremost, my name LABruinBear has significant meaning in my life for a number of reasons. I attended UCLA from 1992-1996, where I earned my bachelors in Business Economics, which I consider my first formal business training. Of course, I was destined to become a “Bruin” from the start, considering hat my parents had met at UCLA 25 years prior to me attending the University and I naturally grew up a die hard UCLA Bruin sports fan and still hold season tickets to UCLA basketball. You will no doubt find me at Pauley Pavilion Thursday and Saturday’s during the fall rooting on Howland and his gutty lil’ Bruins.
The same path cannot be said about my brother and sister, who both attended UC Berkeley for their respective undergraduate degrees. Though I had my Berkeley acceptance in hand when I was 18, I chose to for the first time, strike out on my own at UCLA. The Bear - Bruin rivalry is strong within our family as a result.
In an ironic twist, I decided to pursue my postgraduate business training at the Haas School of Business 5 years later to formally study venture capital style entrepreneurship and ultimately became a “Bear.” I have nearly evened out the family balance of Bruin vs. Bears, however, I will always maintain my allegiance to those “gutty little Bruins.”
I now live in Los Angeles with my beautiful wife Erica, whose support has been unwaiverng with my decision to quit my job at Shopzilla and pursue my entreprenurual dreams, for which I will always be greatful.
Steven
